In this 5 week session we will explore various aspects of the landscape from trees, to rivers, to lake and mountains and experiment with various techniques as we learn how best to capture these essential elements in all their glory. We will work on a combination of cotton rag watercolour paper and yupo paper and see how these surfaces behave differently as we practice a loose and free technique.
The class is suitable for all levels of painter.

Other Supplies
- A board and tape to attach your paper
- A rag to wipe your brushes
- Pencil (HB is best)
- Sketchbook
- Heavy or Medium weight Yupo Paper (do not get translucent Yupo) in a size you feel comfortable with, 9x12” is a popular size. Alternatively, you can buy large sheets and cut them to size.
- Cold pressed cotton rag paper - I prefer 200 or 300lb as it doesn’t buckle as much as 140lb. Individual sheets or a pad are fine. 9x12” or larger is preferable. For $20 per student, I can provide paper if needed - just let me know.
- Fine artist black pen for drawing (if you get one, make sure it is completely waterproof)
- A palette with a large center mixing area
- Brushes (note you can get away with just one brush): #12 Filbert (optional); #6 or #8 Round brush; Teeny brush #0 for details (optional)
