Learn the basics of using pastels, including the sketch, choosing colours and different strokes. Students will create a still life and a landscape.

Supplies:

Students are to bring a drawing board  (14"x16" or a bit bigger), a ruler, and a lunch. All other supplies included.

About the Instructor:

David Shkolny was born in 1969, in Pinawa, Manitoba and grew up in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. He first attended Red Deer College and later obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Major - Painting and Printmaking) from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1992. David works in soft pastels, acrylic, oil and printmaking. He spends many hours painting, sketching and gathering resource material on location in Alberta and across Canada.

David has been teaching art for twenty years, and has a specialization in pastel. His work can be found in public collections like the University Hospital and Fort Saskatchewan City Hall. He was recently selected by Unison Colour, a company in the UK that makes pastels, to be an associate artist.
