This charcoal piece reflects both memory and change, bringing together two deeply personal parts of my life: my daughter and the farm I grew up on. Raised in a rural environment, I developed a strong connection to animals and to the rhythms of farm life. Those experiences shaped who I am and how I see the world.
Now living in a suburban landscape, I've become increasingly aware that my daughter will grow up differently than I did. She won't have the same everyday closeness to animals or the open fields that defined my childhood. This realization carries both a sense of loss and a desire to preserve those memories.
Charcoal, as a medium, allows me to explore these emotions with depth and softness. Its ability to create contrast and delicate detail helps bring the image to life, blurring the line between memory and imagination.
This work lives between past and present, carrying forward what shaped me while opening space for my daughter's own story.
