Donna Rowe
I was born in 1949 in Melville Saskatchewan and married my high school sweetheart in 1969. We have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters, 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
The first 40 years of my life I resided at 21 different addresses. Because I spent so much time alone, I learned to fill the hours with arts and crafts.
I consider myself a ‘Jack of all trades / Master of none’. I have coloured, sketched, knit, crocheted, decoupaged, Dip N Drape, cross stitch, DMC embroidery, crewel embroidery, cake decorating, stain glass, flower arranging, sewing, quilting and painting to name a few.
Career wise: I was a private secretary. Then blessed with 10 years of being a stay at home mom. In the 80’s my husband and I bought and operated a hardware franchise. Then in the late 90’s I owned and operated a craft store.
Volunteer wise: I was ECS Parent Coordinator for all 3 of my children’s classes. I was a school volunteer, assisting in the classroom, posting class artwork, making costumes, and driving on field trips. I served as community secretary ( 3 of us ladies built a new community centre). I was a Brownie leader and developed a 4 year progressive program. All the arts, crafts, games, songs and activities were geared to badge requirements.
In my retirement years I have focused on quilting, embroidery and painting. I paint from pictures and tutorials I find on the internet. I paint for fun and relaxation.
Quite by accident I discovered the ‘Free’ drop in at the Leduc Arts Foundry on Tuesdays at the LRC. A wonderful, friendly group of ladies and gentlemen.
Most of those attending are painters…..but don’t be frightened off. Art is Art. I have seen jewelry makers, ornament makers, bead workers and I myself embroider or paint.
I find everyone is supportive, encouraging and interested in all projects, sharing ideas and concepts. Tuesday is my social contact and outing as there is usually a group who go out for lunch together.
I encourage everyone and anyone who has or wants a craft or hobby to drop in on a Tuesday and join in. You can join the club and enroll in classes and get as involved as you want.
I have now joined the Art Club and starting to participate in activities and volunteering
to help the club succeed.
